Iron Age gold on show at Birmingham and Midland Institute

Redditch Editorial 6th Jan, 2018   0

A FIRST-hand insight into one of the most exciting Iron Age discoveries in the region for years is being offered at a special lunchtime lecture.

Organised by the Birmingham and Warwickshire Archaeological Society, the speaker will be Teresa Gilmour from Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery who was one of the first archaeologists to see and identify the Leekfrith Torcs when metal detectorists came upon them in a field near Leek in Staffordshire a little over 12 months ago.

Teresa will tell the story of their discovery in a muddy field through to eventual identification as the earliest example of Iron Age gold ever discovered in Britain.

The lecture is at the Birmingham and Midland Institute, Margaret Street, at 1pm on Tuesday, January 9. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. There is no need to book.
