Ispley Church in Redditch to host special memorial for families who have suffered the loss of a baby

A SPECIAL memorial event is being held in Redditch this Saturday (May 13) between 10am and 12noon at St Peter’s Church, Ipsley, for families who have been affected by the loss of a baby.

This is an informal time when the church will be open and families can come and light candles, place requests on a prayer tree and release balloons in memory of lost children. Alongside the Church the Parish centre will be open for refreshments.

There’ll be the chance to chat with Hospitals’ bereavement midwife, Trudy Berlet and David Ryan, the Chaplain at the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch. Resources will be available as well from SANDS, the charity that supports families who’ve experienced Still Birth and Neonatal Death.

The event is not just for families who have lost children recently, and all are very welcome, regardless of their background or faith. People have come who lost a little one 20 years ago, and have really valued the time and space to remember and feel supported.

The Revd David Ryan, chaplain at the Alex, said: “Losing a child is every parent’s nightmare. In my role as Chaplain I meet many parents who have experienced the loss of a baby through early or late miscarriage, still birth or neonatal death. I hope that this special time at Ipsley Church will be a way for families to remember their little ones and help continue the healing process.”

The memorial event has been organised by the Hospitals’ Bereavement Midwife, Trudy Berlet, the Alexandra Hospital’s spiritual and pastoral care team, St Peter’s Church, Ipsley and Thomas Brother’s Funeral Directors.
