THE talented cast of TopBox Studio’s Oliver! gathered donations for Redditch Foodbank so local families could enjoy a feast of ‘food, glorious food’ for Christmas.

While preparing for their upcoming production of Oliver! in February, the cast took time out from ‘picking a pocket or two’ at their rehearsals last month to gather much-needed items and festive goodies for families struggling to make ends meet over the festive period.

Echoing the sentiments of Oliver Twist’s famous plea for more, the performing arts group orchestrated their own act of charity, collecting everything from Christmas dinner essentials and selection boxes for children to non-perishable items to see families into the New Year.

A TopBox spokesperson said: “It’s hard to think that in this day and age there are people struggling who may be dreaming about food, just like the orphans in our show, so we knew we had to do something to help.

“The work being done by Redditch Foodbank is amazing and we are so proud to have given back to local people in need this Christmas.”

The donations were taken to AOK Number 24 on Redditch High Street and were gratefully received with thanks by the Thursday staff at Redditch Foodbank.

People can relive the much-loved tale of Oliver Twist with TopBox’s adult theatre company when Oliver! is staged from February 8 to 10 at Redditch Palace Theatre.
