NEW author Bill Carmen woke up one morning four years ago with not just an idea for a story but all the details mapped out in his head.
“I’d been gifted it – I had the names of the characters, their hopes and fears, everything,” said resident of Redditch.
“I just say down and started writing it.”
‘Love in Store – The barrow boy and the heiress’ is the result, is set in 1970s London, and much more than a rags to riches tale of social differences.
“The 60s and 70s were really my era, they were my time and I suppose there’s a lot of the young Bill Carmen in the book,” said the retired father of two.
Writing the book was one thing, getting it published was another.
“I attended a day long seminar with publishers Faber and Faber and Penguin and really they didn’t want one book, they wanted two, three books.
“So I decided in the end to self publish which in itself was a lot of work, harder than writing it, but it’s available on Amazon and all the usual book shops online, and it’s available in Redditch and Bromsgrove through me.”
Meanwhile that second book is coming along with the former insurance man 15,000 words into the sequel.
Love in Store costs £7.99 + £3 postage and packing, however if you order from Bill and live in the area he will deliver it to you free of charge.
