STUDLEY villagers will be joining in the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations by lighting their very own beacon in her honour on the Recreational Ground in Pool Road next Thursday, April 21.

There will be live music, food and refreshment available on the Recreational Ground from 7pm before the beacon is lit at 7.30pm by the vice chairman of Studley Parish Council, Councillor Jim Bacon accompanied by his Consort Mrs Jean Bacon.

Prior to the lighting of the Beacon Studley Beavers will read a poem and a prayer of thanksgiving will be given by the Reverend Steve Dunton.

The Redditch Orchestra will be playing the National Anthem.

The event will mirror celebrations across the country as the nation follows the lead set by Prince Charles who will invite Her Majesty The Queen to light the Principal Beacon at Windsor Castle.

This will be followed by the lighting of beacons along the Long Walk, Windsor Great Park, including one at the Copper Horse, and then over 1,000 beacons will be lit throughout the UK, including Studley, the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and beyond.

Britain has a long tradition of celebrating Royal Jubilees, weddings, coronations and special birthdays with the lighting of beacons.
