THIS YEAR’S Redditch Christmas lights switch-on will be performed by JLS star Aston Merrygold, it has been revealed.
The annual festive extravaganza will take place in the town centre on Saturday, December 7.
People will be able to meet the singer, songwriter, actor, dancer and TV presenter at a special meet and greet in the Kingfisher Centre.
Then he will take to the stage to wow the crowds with a live performance of his Christmas show.
Aston’s boy band JLS first shot onto the scene in the fifth season of the X-Factor, finishing runners-up to Alexandra Burke.
The group achieved five UK number one singles and a number one album on the UK Albums Chart.
The Redditch BID, which has organised the event, said it was ‘beyond excited’ when unveiling the latest big name to kick-start the town’s countdown to Christmas.
Big stars two years in a row
This year’s announcement follows on from last year’s Christmas extravaganza when Mysterious Girl singer Peter Andre took centre stage, also doing a meet and greet in the Kingfisher before performing live.
Thousands of people flocked to the town centre, giving businesses a much-needed boost during the festive season.
