OUT of work people in Redditch are being given the opportunity to gain their HGV licence – with help from the local Job Centre.

It’s one of a range of initiatives available to local people to get them back into work.

Job Centre spokesman Mike Dzioba said: “The training is free if you meet the eligbility criteria – you have to be suitable for the work, for instance have a driving licence and in receipt of Universal Credit.

“We’re getting names and details of people interested at this moment.”

Redditch Job Centre is looking for 15 to 20 candidates to go through the programme which would be provided by an external company.

Other opportunities include training to gain a forklift truck driver’s licence and work experience with supermarket giant Morrisons, with many candidates going on to gain jobs with the company.

Redditch landmark the Southcrest Hotel has also been been running a hospitality training programme to help people gain the skills to find work.

The Job Centre and Redditch Library are hosting a young person’s career and jobs fair at the Library on April 17.

Running from 10.30am to 2.30pm it aims to showcase the training, apprenticeships and employment opportunities available.
