Joe and team get cooking to serve up a hot meal for Redditch residents

THE annual Christmas Eve hot meal get together for community groups and residents in Redditch organised by Councillor Joe Baker once again proved a tremendous success.

Coun Baker, who represents the Greenlands ward for Labour, was helped by his party colleagues and friends as well as a number of local firms.

“People were again very generous with Diamond Buses donating meat, Batchley Fish Bar donating potatoes and other companies giving us plenty of vegetables,” he said.

“We also had donations of mince pies, Christmas puddings and cakes from members of the public.”

Leader of the Labour group on the borough council, Coun Bill Hartnett, helped with the cooking duties.

He said: “We cooked many more meals this year than ever before, preparing more than 110 dinners.

“These were cooked and delivered around Redditch and I would like to thank St Andrews Church in Church Hill for the use of their facilities and all the helpers – more than 25 in total – who took on the many duties involved in making this happen.

“Finally credit must also go to Joe who’s idea this was. This is our sixth year of doing the Christmas Eve meal, and I am sure all those who joined in enjoyed taking part and got to experience the true spirit of Christmas.”
