IT’S been another fabulous and record breaking year for local youngsters who have once again shone in this year’s A Level results.

At Trinity High School in the town centre students and staff were celebrating after youngsters achieved their best ever set of vocational results achieving a Distinction or Distinction*.

The school was also delighted that so many students gained the top grades this year, particularly as for many subjects this was the first year of the new type of A Level which put less emphasis on course work.

As a result a high number of students not only gained their first choice places at university but the school also had the highest number of unconditional offers it had ever had.

A particular mention goes to Robert Gondris who achieved A* grades in Maths, Further Maths and Physics, and an A in German and who will be going on to the University of Oxford to study Mathematics.

Adrian Ward, Headteacher, said ‘I am delighted that Trinity Sixth Form continues to demonstrate a drive for excellence for all our students. The students and staff should be extremely proud of these achievements. I am delighted and very proud of them all. This is another year of improvement for the school and demonstrates why so many students are choosing Trinity for their post-16 studies.’

Students at RSA Academy Arrow Vale achieved the school’s best ever A Level results.

In all 56 per cent of grades achieved were at A* – B with 48 per cent of grades at A*- B in A level subjects.

In fact 49 per cent of students achieved at least one A/A* grade.

Delighted Principal, Ian Mellor, said: “This is a fantastic set of results and is testament to the hard work of students, staff and parents. We are particularly pleased that for the second year running, all students who had applied for university were successful in securing their place.”

Meanwhile Saint Augustine’s Catholic High School lived up to its national rating of Outstanding with some outstanding A Level results.

They come in the year when new linear examinations in 13 subjects have been introduced seeing a move away from coursework, modular and AS examinations.

The school saw 24.2 per cent of students achieve A*/A grades or equivalent – a massive 93 A*/A grades or equivalent from a cohort of 106 students; 30 per cent of students achieved four or more A levels and 99.7 per cent of students achieved three or more A Levels.

In individual curriculum areas the following percentages of students gained A*-B grades: 73 per cent Chemistry; 62 per cent Geography; 100 per cent German; 100 per cent Polish; 75 per cent Further Mathematics; 64 per cent Mathematics; 61 per cent RE.

Tony Quinn, Executive Principal, said: “I am immensely proud of our students’ achievements which, as always, is testament to their hard work and diligence with the excellent support of staff, parents/carers and Academy Representatives of Saint Augustine’s Catholic High School.”

At Alcester Grammar School a record 68 per cent of entries graded A*- B – and this outstanding figure is even higher (over 82 per cent) for those students who had been at the school for the whole of their secondary education.

Clive Sentance, Principal, said: “Amidst all the headlines about new specifications and exam reform, there are some things that never change.

“You just can’t beat excellent teaching and exam preparation combined with terrific effort from our students.

“Once again they are leaving us with the world at their feet, not only with the great results they deserve, but also with the broader skills, attributes

and attitudes that come from being part of our wonderful school.

We wish them all the very best!”

● A third of the cohort achieved grades of at least AAB.

● Forty students achieved at least three A grades. It is a tribute to the quality of our local 11-16 schools that half of these students first came to us in year 12.

● There are numerous other personal successes across the A level ability range and virtually all students are set for a destination of their choice.

AGS has one of the country’s most vibrant and successful sixth forms.

Once again Tudor Grange Academy Redditch is celebrating the achievement of their sixth form.

The results this year saw 100 per cent of all students achieving level three qualifications of whom 84 per cent achieved at least three Level 3 qualifications (A / AS Level).

Nearly two thirds of all students achieved a top grade of A*- B grade with 75 per cent gaining the top A/A* grades.

The school also did well in vocational subjects boasting an average grade of Distinction.

Exceptional students included Emily Barker (A*A*A), Josh Hodgson (ABB), Owuraku Kusi-Yeboah (B Dist*Dist*).

Jodie Bolter, Principal said “We are extremely proud of all our students and their achievement is a credit to all of them. I am enormously grateful for the dedication and commitment of both staff and students and delighted that their hard work has resulted in their high achievement.”

Meanwhile students at Woodrush High were celebrating after they too achieved the school’s best ever A Level results.

Headteacher Natasha Rancins said: “The impressive results include the outstanding achievement of more than half of all our students gaining A*-B grades, 82.2 per cent of students achieving A*-C and the 100 per cent pass rate of our A level students – a fantastic achievement and testimony to the students’ dedication and the support from their families and Woodrush teachers. We are justifiably proud of all of our students’ outstanding achievements.

“As a result of such fantastic results, and continuing the longstanding tradition of Woodrush students attending top universities, students have now secured places for Computer Science at Durham, Law at Bristol and the London School of Economics and Political Science, Electrical Engineering and Chemistry at Nottingham, Physics at Sheffield, Psychology at Kings College, Mechanical Engineering at Liverpool, to name but a few.

“Congratulations to all our students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to their studies and have gained the best ever A Level results achieved for Woodrush High School Sixth Form,” she said.
