WELL known Redditch resident Julian Prouse has triumphed in the toughest crossword in the land.
Julian, a keen volunteer with a host of local organisations, says he was astonished to find he’d won ‘The Listener’ crossword in The Times, widely regarded as the brainteaser to beat all others.
“Amazingly, when I look back I think I’ve been doing it since 1963,” said the Winyates Green resident.
“They only get about a hundred entrants a week from across the world, so I’m pretty chuffed.
“It keeps my brain going and thankfully after years of working in the computer industry I’ve got a fairly logical brain.”
And it’s not just the kudos he wins as there’s a choice of prizes to select.
“I’ll probably go for a nice encyclopedia like Brewer’s Dictionary of Phrase and Fable,” said the 81-year-old.
