JUNIOR doctors across England are set to take industrial action on Tuesday (January 12) with a potential two further days earmarked for late January and early February after talks between the British Medical Association (BMA) and the Government failed to reach an agreement.
The news comes after a ballot of junior doctors in November saw 98 per cent vote for industrial action in response to the Government’s attempt to introduce an unsafe and unfair contract.
Unless progress is made, junior doctors will provide emergency care only on January 12, a 48 hour period of emergency care only beginning on January 26 and a third day of action on February 10 which will see a full withdrawal of junior doctors’ labour between 8am and 5pm.
Dr Andy Phillips, interim medical director for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said that the local trust was drawing up contingency plans to ensure that it runs safe services.
“We would like to reassure both staff and patients that we expect to provide as full a service as we possibly can during this period,” he added.
” We would also like to thank our staff for their continued support during this period.”
