Both KFC outlets in Redditch now re-opened as chicken supplies resume

BOTH branches of KFC in Redditch have now re-opened for business, writes Rhys Goodfellow.

The outlet in Clews Road re-opened its doors on Wednesday, February 21 and was followed a day later by the branch on Trafford Retail Park after the nationwide fast food chain was hit by a shortage of its main ingredient – chicken.

Hundreds of KFC branches were closed across the UK, but most are now back serving again.

After announcing their switch to delivery contractors, DHL, last week, the chain was forced to close a number of its 900 stores nationwide, blaming ‘operational issues.’

Thousands of people took to social media to express their anger, frustration and of course, hunger for chicken.

A spokesperson for KFC said at the time: “We’ve brought a new delivery partner onboard, but they’ve had a couple of teething problems – getting fresh chicken out to 900 restaurants across the country is pretty complex!

“We know that this might have inconvenienced some of you over the last few days, and disappointed you when you wanted your fried chicken fix – we’re really sorry about that. Hope to see you in our restaurants soon.”

The crisis is understood to have been caused by a ‘perfect storm of KFC changing providers from seven distribution points to one single one run by DHL combined with a crash on the M6 which hit chicken supplies.

KFC have an updating link on their page so that customers can see if their local store is open for business.
