REDDITCH Asda has thanked a checkout colleague who stepped in to pay for a mum’s shopping when she was getting upset because she could not get her bank card to work.

Jack Bird, who has worked at the store for five years, has been nominated for an Asda service superstar award for his act of kindness.

Store manager Ben Walsh said: “Jack really went above and beyond to help out the customer.

“The lady had a young child who was crying, which was causing her considerable stress, and then when she went to pay for her shopping her card didn’t work, which added to her stress levels.

“This, combined with the queue that was building behind her, meant that she started to get tearful herself.

“Without hesitation, Jack offered to pay for her shopping, for which she was very grateful.”

Another customer, who witnessed the kind deed, wrote to a letter to the store to highlight the excellent service offered by Jack and saying it was “an incredible act of human kindness.”

The store reimbursed Jack for his kindness.
