REDDITCH Scouts took part in a district-wide pioneering activity session on Sunday in a bid to earn their Pioneering Badge.

A traditional Scouting activity, the youngsters, aged 10-14 got busy making sctructures out of large poles and rope. They had to get to grips with learning at least six knots and three lashings as well as using other essential rope skills such as whipping and splicing.

It all happened at Nash’s Acre, in Manor House Lane, Astwood Bank and involved 12 Scouts from four Redditch groups.

Redditch Scout District Commissioner Mike McAuliffe said: “Outdoor activities form the cornerstone of life as a Scout, and this was the perfect opportunity for the youngsters to learn new skills and meet others who are interested in the same things.”
