Last chance to view as exhibition on old Redditch reaches final weekend

MORE memories please! That’s the message from Redditch Local History Society as members get ready to bring another successful exhibition to a close.

People flocked in the droves to Forge Mill Needle Museum for the event and to look at old photographs of Redditch, reminisce and have their memories jogged.

Delighted society archivist Derek Coombes said: “There has been a steady stream of visitors, many of whom have spent several hours looking at all the exhibits.

“And what has been even more pleasing is seeing groups of visitors, some strangers, other long-lost school pals, standing around chatting and sharing memories.”

One notable success has been the ‘three for free’ ticketing policy where visitors who paid for entry once could return on any three subsequent days as ‘there was too much to take in in one visit’.

“I would just like to say, on behalf of the Redditch Local History Society, a big thank you to all the people that have helped make our 2019 exhibition at Forge Mill a success,” said Derek.

“A few visitors have also been moved to leave their own memories or return with personal photographs to share with the society.

“This is why we are issuing a plea – don’t stop recording your memories of growing up and living in Redditch.

“Every memory is like adding a piece into what is a giant jig-saw puzzle called Redditch Heritage.

“The challenge is to capture everyone’s pieces before they are lost.”

And with the ‘new town’ no longer new but very much part of Redditch as a whole those ‘new town’ memories would also be welcome.

“Please write the down your memories and donate them to the society’s archive. You’ll be adding your piece of the Redditch History jigsaw,” said Derek.

For those who have not yet visited the exhibition, it runs until this Sunday, November 24 at Forge Mill.

Check the Mill’s web site for opening times.
