Ross Crawford 25th Aug, 2019

IF you love your lobelia, have problems with your petunias or if you’re brassicas are bent then The Church on the Green (aka St Stephen’s Church) is the place to be on Saturday, September 7 at 2pm.

Darren Rudge, BBC Radio WM’s Laughing Gardener, will be there to answer your gardening questions and give top tips for a healthy abundance of flowers, fruits and vegetables without breaking the bank.

Darren is a multi-award winning garden designer, broadcaster, RHS lecturer and garden writer.

He regularly has articles published in the gardening press and is the permanent gardening expert for BBC WM 95.6.

Known as ‘The Laughing Gardener’ he was nominated for a garden media guild award in 2016 and 2017 for his novel and inspirational approaches to gardening issues and problems.

He is also a garden judge at national shows and mentors schoolchildren through ‘The Green Plan It Challenge’ run by the Royal Horticultural Society which is aimed at getting children gardening and living healthier lifestyles.

“My talk and demonstration aims to show how household items can be used to help people garden, especially those gardening on a very tight budget,” he says.

“Gardening need not be expensive; with some simple tips it can be very cost effective and I think we all don’t mind saving money.

“The event will be packed with fun and laughter with full audience participation required and you’ll certainly learn lots about how you can garden with the things you have in your kitchen, bathroom and bedroom cupboards.

“There’s lots of savings to be made and you will be amazed what you can do in the garden with teabags, an old bra and a pair of tights!”

Tickets are £5 and are available from The Word Bookshop at St Stephen’s Church and on 07836 644445.
