A CHARITY football match in aid of the NHS in Redditch has been organised for when the lockdown is over.
Featuring health staff versus key workers, the aim is a summer celebration to mark the relaxing of restrictions, to say thank you to everyone who kept on working through coronavirus and raise vital funds in the process.
The match is the idea of Brockhill resident Lee Simmons who works for Redditch-based pharmaceutical distribution company Lexon which has stepped in to sponsor the team kits.
“It’s been amazing the way it’s taken off,” said dad of two Lee.
“I just put the idea out there and players just started contacting me. West Mercia Police football team also got in touch and said their cadets could help with bucket collections.”
Lee also benefited from the ‘Good to ‘Great’ scheme run by his employers.
“I put the idea to my manager and they thought it would qualify for Good to Great and really I was just looking for a donation.
“I couldn’t believe it when they offered to pay for both sets of kit.”
The match is scheduled for Sunday, August 30 at the Mettis Aerospace Sports Club.
Kick off is at 1.30pm, entry is just £2 and there will be a raffle, the match and much more to enjoy.
