YEAR 7 pupils at Woodfield Middle School were cooking up a real treat last Tuesday at the finals of their Chef of the Year competition.
The brainchild of teacher Gemma Lawrence and covering ‘food and nutrition’, the aim was for pupils to design a three course menu, to justify their choices and then serve it up to the judges. With prizes at stake over half a term the competitors were whittled down to one boy and six girls all vying for the top title before they went head to head in front of the judges who included the winner of the Year 8 competition.
“They had to get everything right, from table presentation to timings and they had three hours to do it all in, and I must admit they’ve been brilliant,” said Gemma.
In a tightly fought contest first place went to Rebecca Grace with Anastasia Hine second and Leah Holder and Zoe Shedd joint third.
