‘Showing disrespect’
I WRITE regarding Abbey Cemetery and the crematorium project.
Redditch Borough Council and the councillors have absolutely no idea or comprehension of what they are doing in this case.
It is both heartless and immoral – totally inconsiderate of the families’ thoughts or wishes.
Councillor Sharon Harvey says it’s a emotive subject – damn right it is. You can’t go showing that much disrespect to the living and there deceased family members.
And there are other options available which could be explored more.
This is the wrong location – the wrong site.
It’s morally wrong and hypocrisy at its finest in my opinion.
The council committee needs to take another long look at this.

‘An insane decision’
AS A resident of Hither Green Lane (B98 9BW) and being a victim of the insane decision to uphold the appeal against building 214 houses on the Abbey Park Golf Complex (DWHomes) I make the following sarcastic comment and also enquire if the true total financial trade-off the builders offered us at Redditch Council has been revealed.
Or as I suspect it will be work in progress and ongoing.
Yes by all means think of the final resting places of the deceased and dying and not worry too much about the living.
Has the council thought about the cost to all taxpayers on the inevitable situation that the 66 social house rents will ever get paid plus the extra benefits that no doubt will be required?
I mention this as I understand that a huge amount of back rents from Redditch Borough Council have already been written off.
On a separate issue regarding the Winter Fuel Payment, I feel it should given to all pensioners whose houses fall in the first three bands.
My home is in Band F so no axe there to grind.
The whole planning process and subsequent appeal was indeed an insult to common sense.
With the greatest respect to all your readers.

‘Nothing has changed’
LABOUR’S decision to dig up land at the crematorium—where countless human remains have been scattered – is an appalling act of disrespect.
Have they even consulted the families of those laid to rest there?
Their hypocrisy is clear. The other newly proposed burial site, right by the Arrow Valley Lake, is used far more than Ipsley Meadow has ever been.
Do Labour councillors expect mourners to sit in grief while family’s picnic, cyclists ride past and a 5k run charges through every Saturday?
When Ipsley Meadow was debated, people protested over newts. Yet this site borders a nature reserve for endangered slow worms.
This decision makes it clear that Labour is failing both the living and the dead.

‘Link already exists’
AS A lifelong Labour voter and a party member I waited 14 long years for a Labour Government.
Then we get Starmer, Reeves, Kendall and Streeting and it is just as if nothing has really changed.
Instead of going after the easy target of the most vulnerable in society and cutting disability benefits etc they should be looking at a Wealth Tax and making sure companies like Amazon and USA big tech companies pay their fair share of the tax burden.
And what about the fabulously rich Royal Family and their Sovereign (Welfare) Grant which is increasing from £86.3million to £132million this year?
Are we really saying they can’t be expected to make any sacrifices as well to their privileged lifestyle in the current climate?
Do we really need the high cost of outdated ceremonies like the Order of the Garter in 2025 dating from the 14th century?
What relevance is this sort of ceremony to normal working People ?
I won’t vote Labour again until they become a Labour Party.

‘Link already exists’
I AM bewildered by the sum of money offered for an active travel link between Quinneys Lane and Studley Road on Woodrow Drive.
Does Worcestershire County Council not know this link already exists as part of the National Cycle Route from Studley to Birmingham?
Could the money please instead be spent on a safe cycling/walking route from the homes around the schools in Downsell Road please?
This – because the adjoining roads are too dangerous for children to cross – would mean children can safely walk and cycle to school instead of being delivered by car.

‘Nothing’s been done’
FOR about six weeks on my way to help at the Oasis Charity Shop I have passed the red pillar box at the entrance to Woodrow Centre.
Yes – it was set on fire by some mindless vandal. Yes – it is probably hard to repair with only 115,000 of them left.
I have just returned from three weeks in a so called ‘ developing ‘ country, where they care for every addition to their surroundings and infrastructure and treat everything with respect.
I return to discover nothing has been done to prevent or cover this eyesore.
It is my firm belief that Woodrow is simply ignored?
Imagine if this post box stood amongst those outside the entrance to Kingfisher Centre. How long would it wait?
My own experience, having been there, is to forget Water Aid to Africa and begin to put our own systems right before correcting other nations.

EDITORS COMMENT
IT IS fantastic news that the date has been set for the return of Redditch’s outdoor market.
Well done to the borough council and everyone involved in getting the stalls back in the town centre where they belong.
Redditch is traditionally a market town and has been one of the few in Worcestershire not to have an outdoor offering.
The last outdoor market provided plenty of hustle, bustle and atmosphere to the town centre.
We watch with interest to see which traders will be coming to sell their wares.
