Linda’s passion leads her to sew 200 masks for Redditch

A PASSION for sewing has seen a Redditch woman turning out more than 200 face masks for residents worried about the spread of coronavirus.

Linda Garrod’s work has been so impressive her masks have been snapped up by friends, neighbours, and staff at nearby pharmaceutical distributors Lexon where Linda’s daughter-in-law Sharon works.

“I’ve been told the flowery ones are a particular hit with the men,” said the senior citizen who is self isolating at her Winyates home with her husband Malcolm.

“Sewing is my hobby. I was making memory bears for people and I had so much material I thought, I know how to use this up.

“So I’m doing the masks for free – if someone wants one I’ll make it and put it in the bin by the gate.

“We haven’t got a doorbell so people leave all sorts in the bin – cakes, chocolates – my husband says we’ll all be putting on weight.

“I’m making loads of masks now – seems half of Redditch has one; Malcolm gave me a pair of trousers and I looked at them and said ‘ I think this material’s too thick’ and he said ‘I only wanted them turning up!’”

Linda used to work at Lexon herself where the firm has seen a massive surge in demand for products.

Linda’s friend Michelle Southall said: “I think she’s amazing – Linda’s made all these masks for people, she doesn’t charge and they look fantastic. I think she’s brilliant.”

For anyone looking for a mask, Linda can be found on Facebook.
