Lions hit the target for Rory appeal in Redditch

REDDITCH Lions darts team from The Eagle Pub in Redditch took part in a 24hour marathon darts challenge in aid of the Rory the Robot Appeal and Prostate Cancer UK.

Not only that but team skipper Andy Smith’s son Adam completed the Swindon and Cheltenham half marathons also for the twin causes.

All the proceeds raised have been divided between the two.

At a special ceremony at The Eagle on Evesham Road, Crabbs Cross, a cheque for over £2,000 was presented by the team to Nicky Langford, fundraising officer for the Rory the Robot campaign.

A delighted Nicky said: “We are so grateful for the support, this is a fantastic amount and we really appreciate the boys taking on this challenge. I look forward to the next one!”

Rory the Robot is a £1.6million machine that tranforms prostate cancer surgery, reducing the invasive nature of the operation and cutting the amount of time a patient stays in hospital.

Not on that but it can be used for other applications to treat a wide range of patients.

Once purchased Rory will be based at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch which is a national leader in bladder and urinary surgery.
