THEY say dogs are a man’s best friend, and that is certainly the case for a hearing-impaired volunteer at Dogs Trust Evesham who has formed a beautiful bond with Lollie, a deaf crossbreed.
Phoebe Curtis, aged 18, from Stratford became a volunteer at the Wickhamford-based rehoming centre in July and loves nothing more than spending her time with her new BFF (Best Furry Friend), Lollie.
Loveable Lollie has been at the Rehoming Centre since June and sadly has had very little interest from potential adopters, leaving staff concerned that she may be being overlooked because of her deafness.
When Phoebe started volunteering and spending time with Lollie, staff realised it really was the ‘paw-fect’ match after seeing how well the two of them got along. Phoebe was using sign-language to communicate with Lollie and she’s built up quite the repertoire of signals now.
Phoebe is now appealing to dog lovers to consider adopting the loveable hound and asking them to not let the fact she is deaf deter them.
The team at Dogs Trust Evesham say Lollie would be best suited to a home without children or other animals as understandably she doesn’t like to be approached unexpectedly, but she loves to have cuddles with canine carers at the centre.
Ideally her new family would live in a quiet, rural location with a large garden and experience of, or have researched training a deaf dog. But as with all dogs cared for by Dogs Trust, the behaviour team will be on hand to give Lollie’s new owners whatever support they need to make sure she settles in.
To give Lollie a loving home contact Dogs Trust Evesham on 0300 303 0292 or drop into the centre on Pitchers Hill, Wickhamford, Evesham, WR11 7RT.
