EXPERT examiners essentially ruled out the possibility of there being a mechanical defect on the car driven by defendant Raeqa Liaqat yesterday at Worcester Crown Court.
The red Seat, which crashed into Redditch teenager Ollie Seller’s black Audi on May 27, 2017 – likely killing him on impact – was found completely destroyed.
Road Collision Expert Mark Simpson, who examined the crash site, said: “I can’t rule it out 100 per cent but I would have expected to see deeper lines – or tyre marks – on the road had there been a defect.
“It’s clear the wheel of the Seat turned harshly to the right as it came to a right hand turn on the A4023 Coventry Highway.
“The car turned at such an angle it caused the back wheels to give way to the front wheels, causing the car to spin, travel over the embankment and on to the other side of the road.”
West Mercia Police Vehicle Examiner Robert Beales said: “In my work – and my opinion – I concluded there was no mechanical defect on the car which would have caused the collision.”
Nineteen-year-old Ollie Sellers died on May 27, 2017 following a crash on the A4023 Coventry Highway in Redditch.
Ollie’s black Audi was hit by a red Seat driven by defendant Raeqa Liaqat as she was coming from the opposite direction.
Liaqat, who pleads not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, crossed the central grass embankment in the middle of the highway before hitting Ollie’s car – believed to have killed him on impact.
Liaqat says she doesn’t remember anything.
