AN urgent appeal for new offices has been launched by Age UK in Redditch.
The charity, part of Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch and Wyre Forest, had been forced to close its office base in Redditch in a bid to make better use of its resources.
These offices had been based in the Ecumenical Centre in Redditch town centre, but now the charity is appealing for help in finding a new base for its new outreach programme in Redditch.
These would need to be available perhaps two mornings a week or one full full day a week and at a peppercorn rent – or less.
“Ideally we would need like them to be cheap or even free,” said interim chief executive Sam Humphray.
“We have to make sure that the money we have is used in the best possible way.
“As a charity we do a lot of fund raising and the services we provide are there free of charge, but we are responsible for our own funds and sometimes difficult decisions have to be made.”
However she emphasised that Age UK BRWF was still very much part of Redditch.
“We have got to get the message out there that although we may no longer have a permanent base in the town in are not going anywhere,” said Sam, who has lived in Redditch for more than 20 years.
“It’s all about having access to the services we offer. Redditch is very lucky because it is a town with a good transport network enabling people to get around.
“So wherever you are this is about building up services for the elderly and also about getting young people involved and bringing people together.”
Age UK BRWF offers a large range of services to people aged 50 plus in Redditch, including its new outreach network.
