Local care home unveils stunning new sensory garden

STAFF and residents at Cherry Trees care home have been hard at work creating a fantastic sensory garden for everyone to enjoy.

The courtyard has always been the heart of the Cherry Trees community but this year staff decided to give it a revamp into a fabulous new sensory garden.

Debbie Osborne, general manager at Cherry Trees said: “We’re so pleased with how well the sensory garden has turned out, it is already a much loved space.

“Residents enjoy relaxing amongst the beautiful flowers, taking in their scent whilst listening to the waterfall and looking at all the interesting features we have included.

“I have to say a huge thank you to the team here who have all worked so hard, especially Jo, Malcolm, Gregg and Zuki, it has been a real team effort to get the garden looking absolutely beautiful.”

The new space has something for all the senses with a huge array of beautiful plants, raised beds and wheelchair-friendly walkways making it accessible for all.

Different beds are filled with aromatic plants such as lavender and curry plant, there are tactile plants such as lambs ear and sage, interesting hanging sculptures that catch the sun, a waterfall and there is even mint for when it is cocktail hour.

Attending the grand opening, Caroline Baker, director of Dementia Care and Deena Heaney, one of Barchester Healthcare’s team of dedicated Dementia Care Specialists commented: “The new garden is absolutely perfect, it is so well designed and has so many different ways for residents to engage with the space.

“The sensory qualities of the plants and features will evoke so many memories for our residents and they will all enjoy coming to sit in this tranquil area.

” The team at Cherry Trees have really excelled themselves.”
