Locals looking to switch to a teaching career urged to visit Kingfisher event

A CHARITY is searching for experienced locals looking to make teaching a career.

Up to 100 people from Redditch, Bromsgrove and other local towns can apply to be trained by ‘Now Teach’ when it holds a ‘discovery day’ at Coffee#1 in the Kingfisher Shopping this Tuesday, March 17.

Now Teach aims to help address the national shortage of teachers while also supporting new recruits to stay in the industry for the long-term.

The charity says the shortage is particularly critical for secondary school teachers, especially in STEM subjects – science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Lucy Kellaway, co-founder of Now Teach, said: “I decided to become a teacher at 58 because I realised I wasn’t getting any better at my job in journalism.

“I set up the charity because I realised there wasn’t a straightforward way for people like me to get into teaching.

“We’ve since gone on to recruit more than 200 people – which is more than 1,800 years of experience.”

Now Teach is actively seeking successful people, from any profession, who might be interested in teaching.

For more information email [email protected] or pop along to the event at Coffee #1 between 11am and 5pm.
