THERE was no escape for a shoplifter who stole from Waitrose supermarket in Moorfields Road, Alcester, after he was tracked down and arrested just over an hour later – in Malvern.
The incident unfolded at 9.20am on Saturday, August 18 when eagle-eyed staff spotted the man wheeling a trolley out of the store without making any effort to pay.
The registration number of his car was passed to police who put out an alert across the West Mercia and Warwickshire Police alliance.
At 10am there was an ANPR camera hit in the West Mercia area, and half an hour later a police patrol in Malvern spotted the vehicle parked near shops.
The car was stopped from leaving the area and the driver ran off, but after a search he was found and arrested for a number of theft offences.
