Looking good after a revamp

Redditch Editorial 29th May, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

THIS is how Worcester Square will look following a £2.4million revamp of key parts of the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.

Centre owners Capital & Regional have unveiled plans to transform the space into a community area for the town while Evesham Walk will undergo an extensive facelift to turn it into a modern fashion retail destination.

Work will include the removal of two existing first floor walkways from Evesham Walk while double storey, glass fronted and stone clad shop front shops will replace existing MDF fascia.

Fashion brands will be centred along Evesham Walk with Krisp, Roman Originals and tReds having already arrived ahead of the refurbishment. It will be carried out in stages outside of normal opening hours to minimise disruption to shoppers and is expected to be completed by October.

Ken Williams, general manager of the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, said: “The Kingfisher is more than just a shopping centre; it’s an important community space at the heart of Redditch. That’s why the latest improvements are so important – they will re-invigorate the space and give people new reasons to shop, eat and socialise here, while also discovering what Redditch has to offer.”

The investment is on top of the £2million spent on The Hub area, which has seen the opening of Pure Gym and Nando’s with other new restaurants to follow.

As the Standard revealed last week, the centre is also proposing to build a supermarket on the site of Car Park 4, at a cost of more than £10million.

But Capital & Regional has warned the proposal cannot go ahead, and future investment may be jeopardised, if Asda is granted permission to create a 50,000 sq ft store in Smallwood.

The plans go on show tomorrow (Saturday) and Monday (June 2) between 10am and 4pm in Worcester Square in the centre where shoppers will be able to ask questions and comment.
