A SEVERE fire has ripped through a building in Wythall in the early hours of the morning.

The blaze broke out around 4am, quickly spreading across half of the ground floor and into the roof space of the 10m by 15m bungalow in Gorsey Lane.

Seven crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) attended, including three from Redditch, one from Bromsgrove and an aerial ladder platform from Worcester.

An incident command unit from Wyre Forest and the welfare support vehicle from Tenbury Wells were also sent to the scene, along with two West Midlands Fire Service crews – from Kings Norton and Solihull.

A HWFRS spokesperson said: “The incident was sectorised and the fire was fought using three hose reel jets and two main jets with four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent one ambulance and a paramedic officer.

Two people – a man and a woman, both in their 40s – were assessed by crews and were treated for injuries not believed to be serious.

They were both then given self care advice before being discharged at the scene.

West Mercia Police also attended, as did gas and electricity supplier representatives to isolate the power.

Damping down took place and the final crew left the incident at 11.40am.
