KAREN Lumley has pledged to fight on for the people of Redditch after being re-elected on Thursday.
The jubilant MP said she had been overwhelmed by the level of support she’d received, particularly on polling day when she said people were coming out of their houses unbidden to wish her well.
“I will continue to fight on the three issues I was elected on in 2010, and those are education, the Alexandra Hospital and the economy.”
She said she would be meeting with headteachers and the commissioner for schools for the West Midlands next week to discuss the future of schooling in the borough following the approval of the two-tier system, instigated by Tudor Grange Academy to run alongside the current three-tier system.
“The two-tier system has been given the go-ahead and other schools have put in for it so we will be talking about how that goes forward,” she said.
On the situation at the Alex, she said: ” Obviously the Alex is another key priority. While we have managed to save the Alex we have to see what the West Midlands Clinical Senate says about it and then we can move on.
“We have got to get on to make sure we do the best for the hospital.
“The other big issue for Redditch is the economy and I will be making sure we bring more jobs and wealth to the borough through the Eastern Gateway and HS2.
“I have made it plain to people that I am not interested in being a government minister, my soul aim is to help the people of Redditch.”
