Lunar club topic of this month's Redditch History Society talk

REDDITCH History Society continues its season of local and national history talks with a presentation on the town’s own Lunar Society this Monday, March 10, from 2pm to 4pm at the Oasis Christian Centre.

The presentation – The Lunar Society Past, Present and Future –  will be delivered by recent chairman Dr Peter Borg-Bartolo.

A talk on this subject has been requested by members many times over the years and organisers are delighted they have managed to secure it on the programme.

The Lunar Society is of both local and national interest as it was a hive of geopolitical activity industrially and in society and was based in Birmingham.

It started in the late 18th century as a gathering of the best and most fertile brains of the time.

The society met for lively and productive dinners before returning home by the full moon. Members included Matthew Boulton, James Watt and Josiah Wedgwood.

Redditch History Society meets at the Oasis Christian Centre from 2pm to 4pm on the second Monday of each month except August and January.

The society’s AGM will take place on April 14.

The brief business meeting will be followed by a presentation of original World War Two Official Broadcasts by the Society Executive.
