A KIND-HEARTED friend is appealing for help from the Redditch community to lend a helping hand to local heroes Rob and Maggie Underwood.
The couple run the Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts Foundation, formerly known as Redditch Heart Safe, and campaign tirelessly to equip schools and communities with life-saving defibrillators.
But now, in a role reversal, it is the Underwoods who need help from the community in organising their wedding.
Debbie Wickett, a family friend, has taken it upon herself to ask the people of Redditch for help in giving Rob and Maggie the wedding of their dreams.
“It would be so nice to give something back to them,”Debbie said. “They have done so much for local children and have safe guarded the next generation.”
The 47-year-old hopes her appeal will inspire the community to support the Underwoods – Maggie uses Rob’s name even though they are not yet married – who have a ceremony booked at Redditch Registery Office on December 5, with a reception at Webheath Village Hall to follow.
However, after the service at 11.30am, Maggie and Rob cannot access the village hall until 1pm and are not allowed to decorate prior to the party as there is a table-top sale running the same morning.
Maggie even joked that she will be putting up the decorations in her wedding dress.
The couple have booked the nuptials for December as a ‘happy memory’ for their family as the month marks the anniversaries of their children, Charlotte and Craig, who sadly passed away within three years of each other.
Maggie added: “We want something we can smile over during the month which is usually horrendous for us.
“Doing it in December also makes me feel as though Charlotte and Craig are with me.”
Since Debbie, who is taking care of the buffet, launched the appeal on her Facebook page the couple, who met in 2008, have received offers from people to supply decorations, make the wedding cake and have found themselves a DJ.
