REDDITCH’S iconic needles were finally placed back into Alcester Street this week, months after they were lifted for resurfacing work.
The needles, often completely missed by shoppers strolling up and down the thoroughfare, hark back to the days when the town was the needle manufacturing centre of the world.
They were taken up as part of re-surfacing work paid for by Worcestershire County Council and Redditch Borough Council.
Initially expected to be completed by August 2017, a further completion date was proposed in December before county chiefs admitted the work would have to roll over into 2018.
