Man pleads guilty to murdering ex-partner in Redditch

A MAN who stabbed his ex-partner to death in a brutal attack at their home in Redditch has today (Friday 18 July) pled guilty to her murder.

Chris Hemming, aged 47, of Other Road in Redditch pled guilty on the fifth day of the trial into the death of 44-year-old Cheryl Mckenna at Worcester Crown Court.

Hemming made a call to police around 9.30am on Monday November 11, 2024, stating he had killed Cheryl at their home.

Officers and paramedics attended the property on Other Road in Redditch and found Cheryl with stab wounds.

Her injuries were so severe that despite CPR, nothing could be done to save her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hemming was immediately arrested and charged the following day where he was remanded in custody.

He will be sentenced on Monday (July 21) at Worcester Crown Court.

Det Ch Insp Gareth Lougher said: “I would firstly like to pay tribute to Cheryl’s family who have lost a mother, daughter, sister and aunt, at the hands of someone who was once supposed to love and protect her.

“The loss they have felt, and will continue to feel, is unimaginable and I hope that today’s result will allow them for some closure moving forward.

“Hemming is a dangerous and manipulative individual, and will soon face sentencing for his deplorable and remorseless crime.”

A woman is killed by a man every three days in the UK, and violence against women and girls makes up just under 20% per cent of all recorded crime in England and Wales.
