Mappleborough Green pub offers a festive welcome

KIND-HEARTED employees at a Mappleborough Green pub are forfeiting Christmas presents this year and have instead treated 22 homeless men to a slap-up festive lunch and held a collection drive for toiletries, food and clothes.

Staff at the The Dog Harvester hosted a three-course Christmas dinner for men seeking accommodation at St Anne’s Hostel in Birmingham on Thursday (December 17) and held a ‘drop off’ day on Saturday (December 19) in aid of Birmingham Christmas Shelter.

“We normally organise a Secret Santa,” said Sara Kenny, who came up with the idea of the Christmas donation. “But I thought it might be nice to do something a bit different this year to give something back to the community.”

The men from St Anne’s were transported from the Moseley Street hostel to The Dog via a coach from Hollywood Travel which was paid for by Harvester bosses.

Volunteers at Birmingham Christmas Shelter welcome between 50 and 150 guests on a daily basis, providing hot meals and drinks, entertainment and a safe and warm place to sleep for pets as well as humans.
