'Mappleborough Woods' figures high as Tories retain Winyates

COUNCILLOR Anthony Lovell has retained his seat on Winyates ward.

Coun Lovell, who holds the environment portfolio on the borough council won by more than 300 votes over his nearest rival, Labour’s Ian Woodall.

Winyates

Jem Bailey (Green) – 121

Ann Gee (Lib Dem) – 125

Anthony Lovell (Con) – 997 (hold)

Ian Woodall (Lab) – 627

And Coun Lovell revealed that the future of the woods proposed for the ‘Mappleborough Woods’ housing development figured heavily on the doorstep.

Coun Lovell, who has already lodged his objection to the plans at the Town Hall said: “This is something I am passionate about and we’re really going to try to get Winyates Green residents involved and making their voices heard when it comes to planning.

“The woods are a green corridor, a conduit from Warwickshire to Worcestershire and if we let it get developed it would be criminal.

“The woods are a huge carbon store, remember COP26? I feel the woods should be left, ideally managed by the people and kept as a nature reserve.”
