AN ATHLETIC Redditch duo are taking on the gruelling London Marathon to raise thousands for a cause close to their hearts.

Carina Maunder and Nicki Mole will be tackling their first 26-mile challenge on Sunday, April 24, and have already raised £2,500 for the deaf/blind charity SENSE.

Both Carina aged 35 and Nickie, 40-years-old, have had family members who have been helped by the organisation.

Carina’s eight-year-old daughter has suffered with eye problems causing her several trips to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, she has cataracts in one eye and if her condition deteriorates she may need surgery.

Nickie’s father suffers with his sight and is deaf in one ear. She said: “The charity have been a massive support so this really is personal for us.

“It has been an emotional journey and quite crazy. Training for a marathon really changes your life. It is tiring and time consuming. You have to be really dedicated but it is all for a great cause.”

The pair are hoping to hit their £3,000 target and have already been fund raising to reach their goal by holding quiz nights, 5K runs and they’re even planning to make their own charity rap video.
