PUPILS at Birchensale Middle School came face to face with Max the boxer in a new initiative designed to alter perceptions of what people may think are dangerous dogs.
Holding Max’s lead was qualified dog trainer Jess Taylor-Jones, the owner of Redditch Dog Walking.
Jess is hoping to change people’s perceptions of Staffordshire Bull Terriers, which are often thought of as dangerous dogs.
As part of her awareness campaign, she is visiting local schools with Max to give free talks on safe handling of dogs.
Last Friday, September 21, she visited Year 5 classes at Birchensale Middle School and explained the importance of looking after dogs properly, the warning signs that a dog may be unhappy and what to do in various situations.
“The children absolutely loved their visit from Max and Jess; they didn’t stop talking about Max, even after he had left,” said Elizah Cartwright, the teacher who organised the visit.
“he children have been taught how to react in real life situations with dogs.”
