AN Astwood Bank farm shop is celebrating after its in-store butchery became certified to sell all home produced beef and lamb as ‘organic’.
The organic butchery at The Stables, run by head butcher Lewis Babakhan, is now the only farm shop butchery in the area licensed to sell home produced organic meat. The beef and lamb sold at The Stables is produced in the fields surrounding the farm shop.
Along with the butchery the farm land at Stables Farm is also certified organic by the Soil Association. The new organic status ensures that no chemicals and artificial fertilisers are used on the land and crops.
The cows and sheep are kept to strict organic animal welfare standards so that customers can be assured of high welfare, completely free range local beef and lamb.
Lewis also travels to local farmers markets at Moseley, Harborne and Solihull farmers in Birmingham to sell Organic meat from Stables Farm.
“We’re very proud to be offering to customers our home produced organic beef and lamb,” he said.
“It’s a truly local, eco-friendly product. The animals are grown on the farm land adjoining the shop, it’s then a short journey to local abattoir CE Partridge and Sons in Bromsgrove. The meat is then matured and cut in our own farm shop butchery.
“The organic certification means customers are assured we follow high animal welfare standards on the farm. The supply chain is very short so it is truly meat you can trust and of course very tasty!”
