MEDAL-WINNING fencer returns home to Studley after finding success at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Sophia Potter attended a Studley Parish council meeting last month at Studley Village Hall.
Sophia won both a silver medal and a bronze medal having battled her way to success through the Sabre Women’s Senior Team and Individual rounds.
She said: “This is my first year competing at seniors level.
“I’ve been juggling juggling training and competitions with my university studies, but I’m proud of what I’ve achieved this year.”
Having picked up the fencing bug from the age of eleven, Sophia now fences for GBR and England.
Proud mum, Ronnie, who accompanied Sophia to the meeting said that she had been encouraged to introduce her daughter to fencing by a friend and has never regretted that decision.
Sophia, who trains at least five days a week, is an enthusiastic exponent of this sport which combines physical co-ordination with agility.
