Ministry of Justice reveals another prisoner death took place at HMP Hewell last week

THE Ministry of Justice has revealed another prisoner has died at HMP Hewell which is located between Redditch and Bromsgrove.

37-year-old Richard Dimmock died on Wednesday, June 26.

The news comes not long after an inquest was held into the death of prisoner Saul Thomas, 42, who committed suicide at the prison on Sunday, May 19.

Speaking on Dimmock, a prison service spokesperson said: “As with all deaths in custody there will be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.”

Worcestershire coroner Geraint Williams has previously called for changes at the prison.

In the report sent to the Prison Service and HMP Hewell in February, he said that notwithstanding assurances that lessons had been learned, ‘the same failings appear time and time again’.

And in the report, to which he required a response from the prison within 56 days, Mr Williams stressed: “In my opinion there is a risk that further deaths will occur unless action is taken.”
