More schools are Heart Safe

Redditch Editorial 20th Jun, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

ANOTHER three borough schools can now claim to be Heart Safe after receiving life-saving machines.

Ridgeway Middle, Crabbs Cross Academy and Astwood Bank First School were presented with the defibrillators by Redditch Heart Safe, which were bought using money provided by Redditch South county councillor Stuart Cross from his divisional fund.

Matchborough First School has also received one of the vital pieces of equipment thanks to a donation from the divisional fund of Martin Jenkins when he was councillor for Arrow Valley East.

As a result of a separate donation another three have been installed at Studley High School and Vaynor First School.

Redditch Heart Safe was founded by Robert and Maggie Underwood following the death of their daughter Charlotte Marie Prentice from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome aged 16 and son Craig from cardiac arrest aged 17.

More than 40 defibrillators have either been installed or are waiting to be put in public places across Redditch and the surrounding area as a result of their efforts.

Mr Underwood said: “We would like to thank everyone for their continued support as without everyones donations none of this would be possible. We are fighting for every beat, as every young heart matters.”

Anyone interested in receiving a defibrillator or to donate should visit Redditch Heart Safe online or call the Underwoods on 07794 637073.
