More than £1million worth of cannabis has been discovered in Redditch this year

MORE than £1million worth of cannabis has been taken off Redditch streets since the start of 2019.

Redditch police have been working hard to clamp down on cannabis production sites after seeing a dramatic increase.

In January officers executed two large warrants in industrial units.

On January 16 more than 800 plants and 250 root balls were seized, which according to officers, would have resulted in a ‘very high street value’.

The second warrant of the month took place on January 31 where more than 100 cannabis plants were seized.

Mike Morton, field intelligence officer said: “We have conducted numerous raids throughout Worcestershire under our ‘Protect’ campaign which aims to eradicate serious organised crime from our streets.”

Earlier this month officers also arrested two people after finding cannabis – estimated to be worth £100,000 – in the boot of their car as they were leaving the Redditch area.

Mike Morton added: “I want to urge anyone in the community who suspects drug dealing or cultivation in industrial units or in houses in their area to report their suspicions to us on 101 or anonymously via crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

“We take all reports seriously and act on all intelligence from the community.”
