A MOTHER and son have been arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs after police stormed their home in Lodge Park and found about £4,000 worth of cannabis.
The 43-year-old woman and 23-year-old man were taken into custody after officers executed the warrant on the house, on Aldington Close, on Thursday (March 24) as part of Operation Mozilla, a three day blitz aimed at tackling crime in North Worcestershire.
Acting on received information from the public over concerns of a drugs and illegal money lending ring operating from within the house, more than a dozen officers were joined by a National Illegal Money Lending Team to carry out the raid.
After searching the property, as well the two vehicles parked outside, police seized three large bags of the class b drug as well paraphernalia they believed to be linked to possible drug dealing.
Inspector Darren Webster of Redditch police said: “The operation has been a great success. We have pulled together for three days to sort out the major problems in north Worcestershire which need more staff.
“To act on suspicions that someone is dealing cannabis and possibly illegally money lending is brilliant as they prey on the most vulnerable people in the area and being able to investigate it properly is great. It is so important to get those people off the streets.
“These operations are especially as the information has come from the public and we want people to know that when they come to us and tell us information, we do something about it.”
A similar operation, called Red Admiral, also involving the Illegal Money Lending Team, was carried out early last year in the same area where a 41-year-old was arrested and is due to appear in Worcestershire Crown Court later this year.
As part of this week’s policing campaign the force also carried out vehicle checks Birmingham Road, near the Abbey Stadium, and seized several cars for being on the road without tax or insurance.
