A MAJOR accident on the A441 Alvechurch Highway traffic island at its interchange with the Coventry Highway in the centre of Redditch has caused long tailbacks tonight Monday, January 4.
The incident happened at 4.20pm this afternoon when a Black Volvo car and a Blue Vauxhall Corsa were involved in a collision on the traffic island.
Initial reports said the Alvechurch Highway was closed as police, fire crews and paramedics worked to free the passengers.
However they were unable to confirm if that was still the case as we write this report, but long tailbacks had started to build up as the rush hour commenced.
They are appealing for motorists to avoid this particular area and find alternative routes home while they deal with the situation.
A police spokesman said those involved had been freed and had suffered minor injuries.
