Moving house: huge bee swarm spotted in Studley

A SWARM of bees was spotted this morning (Tuesday, May 9) in the field hedgerow just off Gunners Lane in Studley.

Surprised Studley resident, Andy Brod, noticed the swarm of honey bees while walking his dog and said: “‘I’ve never seen a bee swarm like this before before – not in real life. It’s quite a remarkable sight.”

Swarming happens when the queen bee leaves the hive with a large group of worker bees and a new honey bee colony is formed.

Experts say bees in a swarm are unlikely to be aggressive or sting unless attacked or disturbed, as they do not have a home to defend.
