REDDITCH MP Karen Lumley has voiced her support for the motion carried in parliament proposing that former BHS owner Sir Philip Green be stripped of his knighthood
Following the recent news that MPs voted to strip Sir Philip Green of his knighthood, Mrs Lumley said: “Unfortunately, I was unable to attend this debate as I am currently recovering at home in Redditch.
“However, I would have voted for the knighthood to be removed. The circumstances surrounding the collapse of BHS were very concerning, and I support all measures taken to tackle corporate irresponsibility, especially in circumstances such as we have seen in BHS.”
The approval of the parliamentary motion is not binding but it increases the pressure on the business tycoon, who has been criticised over the £571m hole in the BHS pension fund and the BHS scandal.
The fall of BHS resulted in 11,000 job losses and left thousands of pensioners with cuts to their income.
