MP visits out of school club to see impact of government support

REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean has praised support for children following out-of-school club visit.

Mrs Maclean visited Funzone at Walkwood Middle School on Tuesday, a popular out-of-school club which has been running since 1998.

Throughout the summer, Funzone has been able to offer places to children who receive free school meals after the government scaled up it’s £220million holiday activities and food programme.

The money has helped out disadvantaged children in Redditch and across the country by serving up healthy meals and fun activities.

In addition to this support, since December 2020, the Covid Local Support Grant has enabled councils to support families who are struggling with the cost of food and utility bills as a result of the pandemic.

In total, Worcestershire County Council has received £2.1million.

“After a tough 18 months for everyone, but particularly for children, it was fantastic to see them enjoying themselves and taking part in a number of activities from painting to baking and playing in the woods,” said Mrs Maclean.

“I’m pleased the Government expanded its holiday activities and food programme as it has provided children in Redditch with healthy meals and exciting activities.”
