A SCARECROW family scooped top prize at this year’s scarecrow day at Forge Mill Needle Museum.

Coun Nina Wood-Ford, Deputy Mayor of Redditch, picked ‘Forge and Abbey’ as the winners from more than 50 entries at the event on Sunday (August 27).

Their makers, entered as Helen, Nic and Rachel, scooped £75 worth of Kingfisher Shopping Centre vouchers for their victorious scarecrows.

In second place came Owen, Evelyn and Megan Jervis with their Mr Tumble scarecrow, and finishing off the podium places was St Phillip’s Thursday morning Bumps Babes and Toddlers group. They took home Kingfisher vouchers worth £50 and £25 respectively.

The scarecrows were brought to life by museum visitors at the bank holiday Sunday event as well as at two special making days on August 23 and 24.

Coun Wood-Ford said: “We were lucky with the great weather and it was nice to see all the children having a good time – not to mention the adults! It was hard to pick a winner with a lot of good effort on display.”

Around 500 people attended the scarecrow day which also featured children’s activities, pony rides, face painting, craft stalls, bouncy castle and music from Vintage Class.
