STUDENTS at Ridgeway Secondary School held a non-uniform day last Friday, December 11 to raise vital supplies to help hard-pressed local families.
The youngsters at the Astwood Bank school could leave their uniforms at home as long as they brought in a donation for Redditch Foodbank.
More than 500 items were collected in the festive initiative, which was organised by students on the school council.
This is the first year of the collection and every pupil took part.
There are plans to make it an annual pre-Christmas event.
“Many local families will be struggling after what has been a very difficult year and we all felt that it was important to give our support,” said Ridgeway’s exam and data officer Rebecca Craig, who helped the school council with organising the day.
“We were overwhelmed with the generosity of the school community.
“Thanks to everyone who supported us and to the hardworking volunteers at the food bank.”
